Be sure to stop by the Comfort Quilt Display at our Quilt Show and enjoy quilts of a variety of colorful designs and exquisite quilting.  Thanks to all who made quilts or donated fabric to make these outstanding quilts, which are distributed to give comfort to those in need.

Thanks also to all those who returned their raffle stubs and money to support this year’s charity Mt. Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry.  You can still turn in your money and tickets at the April Guild Meeting or at the Quilt Show.  The drawing will take place at the May Guild Meeting.

I received a letter from the Putnam County Historian asking for the Guild’s assistance in locating the Putnam County Bicentennial Quilt.  The quilt was design by Gladys Boalt and sewn by members of her sewing group.    If anyone has any idea as to the whereabouts of this quilt, please contact me so I can let her know.  The picture posted here is from the historian’s webpage.

Thank you to all of the teachers at this year’s Super Saturday.  Your participation in the event helped make it so successful.  I think all who attended agree with me that the new venue, the Yorktown Presbyterian Church, was great.  We hope that we can continue to hold Super Saturday here in future years.

Don’t forget to register your quilt for the World of Quilts XXXVIII.  Registration will be open until the end of the month.

There are still a few seats left on the bus for our Lancaster trip!  Join us March 31 – April 1, when we will head to Lancaster for two days of fun with your fellow quilters.  We will shop our way down to Pennsylvania on Friday, stopping at some of the area’s best quilt shops.  After a night at the Fairfield Inn, we will spend the day at the AQS Quilt Show before returning to NY at the end of the day.  The cost of the trip is $170, which includes the bus, hotel (double occupancy), dinner Friday night, breakfast at the hotel Saturday morning, and your ticket into the show.  Hope you can join us!

Super Saturday

Super Saturday Show and Tell will be at the March meeting so all participants will have another month to complete their projects.

There are still openings for this month’s workshop, “Glue and Paste Flowers” given by our speaker Juanita Yeager.  Juanita has won multiple awards and ribbons for composition, color and design in local, national and international competitions.  To quote her “My art is about color”.

The workshop, “Glue and Paste Flowers”, is so much more than just gluing and pasting.  In this machine applique class you will learn Juanita’s way of creating large scale flowers with prepared edge shapes.  She will teach her technique called glue-pasting that she uses when making her large floral wall quilts.  Only for the workshop it will be in a scaled down version to fit a class project. You will also learn how to machine quilt for dimension and texture.  Learn how to finish you quilt with a facing that enhances the “art” look of the class project.

It should be a wonderful day for quilters of all skill and interest levels.  Please join us for a day full of laughter and learning from this very talented quilter.

President’s Message

2017-02-04T16:08:07-05:00President's Message|

I have a couple of important reminders for this month.  The first is that this month’s membership meeting is being held on February 28 – the fourth Tuesday of the month.  Kennedy Catholic is closed on the day we would normal meet.  Make sure you have it on your calendar correctly.  It should be a fun evening as Donna Chambers hosts the Ugly Fabric Auction.  You can read more about it under the Programs section below.  Make sure to bring money, someone else’s ugly may be beautiful to you.

The second reminder is about the location of Super Saturday.  We have moved it to The First Presbyterian Church in Yorktown Heights.  I have been told the space is lovely with plenty of parking, no hills to climb, and the ability to drop off your supplies for the day right at the front door.  I am also sure they will supply us with adequate heat for the day.  It’s not too late to sign up for a class.

Finally, quilt registration will be opening soon.  We are working on integrating on-line payment of the registration fees.  This will not only make it easier for you, but also for the registrar and treasurer who have to process over 100 registration checks each year.  You will be sent an email notice when things are ready.  It’s just giving you a little more time to work on your quilts before you register them.

Calling all Silent Auction Quilts:

As most of you know the Silent Auction is an important part of our annual show.  Not only do you get to put your quilts on display and for sale, the proceeds benefit NSQG.  So I hope many of you plan to participate.  If you do, here is some info that might be helpful: Quilts need to be approximately 25”x25” and all quilts must have a label.  It can be as simple as your name, the year and if you choose, NSQG Silent Auction.  Since many of these quilts will be wall hangings it would be helpful, especially to non-quilting bidders, if they had a sleeve.
Last year the Silent Auction table was a bit “remote”.  That issue has been addressed and they will be in a much more prominent setting.
Patricia Loquest is available at the meetings, by phone or email should you have any questions or comments.

Lancaster Trip

To those who have attended Lancaster trips in the past  and for those who have not attended,  we hope you will consider joining us – this year.  The Lancaster weekend will take place March 31- April 1.  As you know, this is a few weeks later than usual – maybe it will even be warm for us this year!

If you are interested in signing up for the trip, the cost is $170 per person.   Please see Mary Cannizzaro at the Guild meeting.

Guild Book Challenge

Thank you all so much for your entries!  This will be a difficult vote in Feb.  They all are wonderful and so creative.  There are a few of you who are doing a challenge piece but could not get to the Jan. meeting to turn it in due to the iffy weather.  If you have a challenge that you have not turned in, please contact Carol Weber (rodian@optonline.net) asap to let me know that your entry will be coming.  You will also need to let me know the name of the book and the author, so I can make labels.  Your quilt should be brought to the meeting on Feb. 28 early (5:30) as Linda Stern and I will be hanging the challenge before the meeting.

Super Saturday

Super Saturday is fast approaching.  We will extend signups to February 10.  Please contact Patti Caluatti or Caryl Castellion if you are interested in attending a class.  We have room in some classes so please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested.
