The Super Saturday class descriptions are here!  This year’s line-up includes a terrific mix of technique- and project-based classes taught by Guild members, in addition to the traditional “Sit ‘n’ Sew” option.

The doors open at 9 am (for set-up and a prompt 9:30 start) and the day concludes with Show and Tell at 3:30 pm.  The cost remains only $20 and includes a pizza lunch (including salad, drinks, dessert; we expect to have gluten-free pizza as well). Coffee and tea will be available all morning.  Candy will appear magically in the classrooms.  Please bring your checkbook to the next meeting, as sign-ups have been brisk!

Brief course descriptions follow.  Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

Note: In the event of a winter storm, an update will be posted on our home page early Saturday morning.

Technique Classes

Free-motion Quilting (Suzanne Sunday)
Have you mastered the basics of free-motion quilting but find yourself stippling your quilts almost all the time?  Then this workshop is for you!  We will create a “work book” of 8.5 x 11” practice sheets of different free-motion quilting patterns that will form your own free-motion quilting reference binder.  We will discuss various pattern options for different quilting spaces and the use of different threads. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment and try anything you like, making as many sheets as you like.  You will find yourself adding to your sheets for years to come and referring to your workbook almost every time you free-motion quilt.

Prerequisite: You must know the basics of free-motion quilting and be familiar with it on your machine.  (This doesn’t mean you need to be good at it!)    *CLASS FULL*

Hand-Piecing, including Inset Seams (Linda Ostrander)
Would you believe that it doesn’t take much longer to hand-piece a quilt than to do it by machine?  You really have more time away from your machine than you realize.  By hand piecing, you can be quilting during all these spare moments!  The techniques are easy.  With a “tumbling blocks” block, you will learn to rotary-cut your patches, use templates and quickly hand-sew a block with inset seams.  You will be amazed at how much can be accomplished in a very short time.  Click here for supply list.

Beyond the Basics EQ6 and EQ7  (Luann Bruce)
This class continues on from last year’s beginners’ class.  Now you will learn to make more complicated blocks and quilts, even touching on the Custom Set.  If you have already designed a few quilts in EQ, then this is the class for you. You also will need a mouse and extension cord. Bring a laptop with EQ loaded and activated.

Project Classes

Fabric Collage Appliqué  (Tamar Drucker)
We will work on a pictorial landscape using raw edge appliqué.  Bring your favorite landscape photo (may be from a magazine) or use one of the samples available in class. (Please enlarge the photo if you’re bringing one of your own.) Depending on the complexity of your design and/or its size, the actual quilting of your project likely will be done at home.  Click here for supply list.

Trip Around the World in Eight Hours (Maria Weinstein)
Come create a lap-size (45 x 60″) trip-around-the-world quilt.  This is a great technique for recreating an old-time favorite.  Traditionally made from individual squares, this method uses all strips.  This makes it faster and easier to complete in eight hours.  The course level is from advanced beginner to intermediate.  Click here for supply list.

Joe’s Quilt  (Mary Cannizzaro)
This is a great class for beginners or anyone looking to make a stunning quilt with little to no stress.    *CLASS FULL*  Click here for summary and supply list.

Sit ‘n’ Sew

For those with their own projects to complete who’d like the company of their fellow quilters, we offer this opportunity to have your work admired.  The sharing of funny stories is welcome, but not mandatory.  We’ll have electricity available should you wish to use a sewing machine.
